Aug 17th 1907: THE POST – Stopped in the street and asked why he was an hour and half late, a postman said “It is those picture postcards.” On Thursday the Daily News had a leaderette on picture postcards, which said that the sending of these cards by one friend to another, had become a “Fashion.”

Aug 17th 1907: RYDE TOWN COUNCIL – Colonel HAMILTON asked the chairman of the Education Committee whether Mr. Godfrey BARING’s likeness was on the tickets for the childrens tea in connection with the Pageant.

Aug 24th 1907: RYDE POLICE BENCH – William REEVES, Park-road, licensed driver, was summoned for not wearing his badge on the Esplanade, on the 11th inst. Fined 2/6d. and costs.

Aug 24th 1907: RYDE POLICE BENCH – William James KNIGHT, 33 Hill-street, was charged with standing on the pavement at the bottom of the High-street without reasonable cause. Fined 5/- and costs.

Aug 24th 1907: RYDE POLICE BENCH – Arthur WHITTINGSTALL, tout, Elmfield, was summoned for a like offence the same day. The Chief Constable said defendant had been convicted 25 times for like offences. Fined 7/6d. and 10/6d. costs. He was told that next time he would be sent to prison.

Aug 1st 1907: LICENCE TRANSFER – At Ryde Bench the licence of the Victoria Inn, Monkton-street was temporarily transferred from Wm. GOUD to John Charles PRITCHARD.

Aug 1st 1907: On Tuesday afternoon the opening of the new wing of the Royal Isle of Wight County Hospital took place under Royal Patronage, Princess Henry of Battenberg, who is President of the institution, making her first public function on her return to the Island after an unusually long absence.

Aug 8th 1907: A BICYCLE BOAT – A novelty in this respect made by Mr. C. COOPER of the High-street, can be hired on the canoe lake.

Aug 8th 1907: PIER COMPLAINTS – We have heard many complaints regarding the Ryde Tolls. Excursions were announced round the fleet, including pier tolls, but although attention was called to the bills, many excursionists had to pay. Several excursionists jumped the barriers.

Aug 20th 1907: ROYALTY SHOPPING – H.R.H. Princess CHRISTIAN was shopping in Ryde on Friday afternoon attended by Miss Minnie COCHRANE.
