May 2006 – Local History Week: Walks in the Cemetery

A surprising 48 people arrived at the Cemetery gates on Friday 26 May, to be shown around by Janette and Sally-Ann. We split the group in two, and made the tour in opposite directions, meeting about halfway at the grave of Michael Maybrick, and ending where we started at the Cemetery gates an hour and a half later. The weather was kind, and everyone seemed to enjoy the opportunity to hear the stories associated with the twenty graves selected. On 23 May, the five people who showed up enjoyed the tour of the Cemetery, even though the wind was blowing hard and it was very cold. Wednesday was a complete wash out, and we had to cancel – we apologise to the hardy souls who arrived, only to be told that the walk was off. We did say “weather permitting”!

If you’d like to attend future walks please let us know by calling Matthew at RDT on 616362, and he would be pleased to take your details.
