Our busy Research Team, led by Ann Barrett, added detail to 56 of the records on the website in July 2009.

Examples of this months additions include: the report of the death Daniel Barnes in 1881 he was the owner of the Pier Hotel and a Director of the Pier and Gas Companies; report of a fatal accident on Ryde Pier in 1882 resulting in the death of a porter George Burnett; the erection of a memorial to Superintendent of Police Mr John Burt in 1881; the funeral of Scoutmaster Hugh Clarke in 1919; the report of an investigation into the death (in suspicious circumstances) of Ann Ellyett in 1871; report of an inquest into the death of Denys Hatcher of Wootton who died in a boating tragedy in 1946; plus much more.
