September 2009 Additions to records

Our busy Research Team, led by Ann Barrett, added detail to 55 of the records on the website in September 2009.

Our busy Research Team, led by Ann Barrett, added detail to 54 of the records on the website in September 2009.

This month the additions are mainly from Census, Directories and short death notices plubished in the local newspapers, but give vital information about where people lived and what they did for a living. Also included this month is the report of the death of Mr John Langdon in 1879, he was a local builder employing many men; the death and funeral of Mrs Agnes Pearce in 1950, she was the proprietress of a charabanc company; report of an inquest into the tragic death by drowning of young Harry Tredwell in 1888; and the death of Miss Marianne Wise aged 93 in 1915, she remembered Ryde as a fishing village, her reminscences of the ‘olden times’ were very vivid and entertaining.
