REPORT FROM RSHG AGM OCTOBER 2010

RSHG AGM Oct 2010

Thirty eight members attended our AGM at the George Street Centre on Saturday 9 October and there were apologies from a further ten members.

Janette delivered the Chairman’s report with a review of the year which included all the work involved in the production of the Ryde Heritage Audio Trail, four exhibitions, work with Ryde Arts Festival, three presentations, a visit to the National Federation of Cemetery Friends AGM in south London in July, the successful completion of the Ryde Cemetery Restoration project and the official opening of the new Heritage and Learning Resource Centre, Heritage Open Days and the improvements to the RSHG website.

Janette also mentioned that David Earle had, after five years’ work, completed the preliminary mapping of Ryde Cemetery. David had decided to stand down from the committee this year and Janette presented David with a Certificate of appreciation and a copy of Dr McInnes book “A Gentleman’s Tour of the Isle of Wight” as a token of thanks for all the work David has done for the Group.

Arthur Williams, Treasurer, presented the end of year accounts which showed the group to be in a good financial state again this year with income keeping up with expenditure over the year.

The only nominations received for the Committee were for current committee members with the exception of David Earle, and it was decided by a single unanimous vote to re-elect the Committee: Janette Gregson – Chairman; Kate MacDonell – Membership Secretary, Arthur Williams – Treasurer, Ann Barrett, Carol Strong, Shelagh Gaylard and Rachael Mead.

David Earle has indicated that he is prepared to be co-opted back on to the Committee for any special projects.
