APRIL TO SEPTEMBER 2010 ADDITIONS TO RECORDS

Ann Barrett at the Record Office

Our small Research Team has been working hard thoughout the spring and summer adding detail to the records on the website. In total 94 records have been added to over the five months.

The detail includes:

* The fashionable wedding of Lieut. Col Edmund Cradock to Lucy Browne (daughter of the late Gen. Sir Sam Browne VC, GCB, KCSI) Wednesday 6 July 1910.

* Report of an inquest into the death of Mr John Daish who was knocked down by a cyclist in August 1904 and died shortly afterwards.

* The sad story of the death of Edmund Goldsmith who was blown out to sea in a gale and drowned in September 1953.

* A bequest by Miss Amelia Halkett of £1000 in May 1924 to endow a bed or cot in the Children’s Ward in memory of her nephew Arthur Halkett.

* Report of the death of Mr William Hansford in May 1893. He had established a furniture and upholstery business in Cross Street.

* Report of the death of Mr William Jefferd in June 1902 he had worked for 58 years in the employ of Messrs W & J Woods of Cross Street.

* Report of the death of Mr Frederick Mellish who ran a stationers and post office in Ryde for many years.

* Report of the death of Major General E J Wild in May 1914, he was one of the few remaining survivors of the Indian Mutiny.

* An interview with Mr Harry Williams in June 1919 just as he was about to retire after a career of 50 years as a teacher.
