Primroses Return

Primroses near the south wall
Primroses near the south wall

It seems to be a great year for primroses and as always there are carpets of them throughout Ryde Cemetery.

Usually the most beautiful displays are to be found in the south west and oldest corner of the Cemetery but this year we were surprised to find a wonderful selection further along the southern wall. This new area is where recent clearance has taken place and therefore these amazing little plants must have been hidden and dormant for decades but re-emerged with the light and space this season.

Colours vary from very pale yellow, almost white, through darker shades of yellow interspersed with pale pink and red.
