FEBRUARY 2015 BIOGRAPHICAL ADDITIONS TO RECORDS

In February our Research Team added biographical information to 47 records on the website and for 2 people buried or cremated elsewhere.

Lots of interesting stories were uncovered by our Research Team in January including:

* Census details and obituary for Mr Charles Penty who died in November 1894 aged 66 years. Mr Penty For many years he owned and ran the Rajah Brooke Hotel in Monkton Street (see image)

* Census details and report of the death of Mr James Langdon in April 1917. For 43 years Mr Langdon had been clerk and verger at St Thomas Church.

* Report of the death of William Frederick Kelly who died in May 1941 aged 42 years. He was killed in an air-raid on Portsmouth while he was waiting for his wife. Mr Kelly was a native of Ryde and a member of the Police War Reserve.

* Report of the death of Mr George Hanry Gallienne in October 1923 at the age of 54 years. Mr Gallienne had been sub-postmaster of Elmfield for 5 years and also carried on a decorating and undertaking business.
