‘Characters’ bring history alive

'Ryde Characters'

Our ‘Ryde Characters’ have been out and about again, making a return visit to the Elim Church Senior Circle on Wednesday 3rd August 2016 at their premises in Albert Street.

Narrator Kate, introduced characters from three differDSCN0948ent eras, starting with Ann as Mrs Louisa Lake (1877) who, with her husband, owned the Eagle Brewery and many pubs in Ryde.  Then the audience were to meet Dave, with his usual dry humour, as Mr James Wallis (1913), an architect with many daughters that he didn’t understand. Last but not least, Kate spoke to Poppy who was playing the part of Mrs Mary White (1920), she had had 11 sons, 10 of whom served in the First World War.

Afterwards the Elim provided us with rather yummy scones, jam and cream, and a very welcome cup of tea, after all our talking.

We took along some of our folders and photographs which were passed around amongst the members, this generated lots of conversation.  An enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
