Unveiling Refurbished Interpretation Panel

Janette & Maisie at the Refurbished Panel 2022

On Saturday 16th July we held our monthly Coffee Morning at the resource centre.  The weather being very hot we had tables and chairs outside in the shade, which was appreciated by those that came along to join us.

At 11 o’clock we all walked to near the entrance of the cemetery, where Janette and Maisie unveiled our re-furbished Interpretation Panel, it had been repainted in the original colours of Black and Gold, also we had added reprints of the posters that had been in the panel when it was new.

Maisie & Janette 2008

In 2008 when the panel was first erected, Janette and her mother Maisie, unveiled it for the first time (photo left), so it was fitting, and very much appreciated, that they had come along on Saturday 16th July to perform the unveiling a second time.  Janette gave a small speech, detailing how RSHG had put up the panel as part of the group’s heritage lottery grant and the production of our book ‘Ryde’s Heritage, Our Town, Your Histories’   A picture of the front cover of the book, was one of the posters in the panel.

Afterwards everybody sat in the shade and enjoyed refreshments, with plenty of friendly chat going on.  About 18 people had come along, which was very good considering it was such a hot day.

We give our grateful thanks to Janette and Maisie for performing the unveiling, it was really lovely to see you both.
