Rotary Family Fun Day

RSHG Stand in the Eastern Gardens

We had a wonderful day at the Rotary Family Fun Day, which took place on Saturday 30 July. The day was bright with a light breeze, our gazebo was set up early in the Eastern Gardens on the Esplanade, we soon put some of our archive folders on the tables for people to look at. Our sales table of books and leaflets was very popular, and brought in some very much needed funds for the group.  The exhibition on show was about Ryde High Street, with many old photos, and some within living memory that people spent much time perusing.

Volunteers doing their bit

Volunteers were on hand to talk to visitors to our stand, and many of the group members came along to support us as well, so it was a very friendly and sociable afternoon.  We were able to help most people with a varied lot of enquiries, and they were surprised at the amount of information we could supply.  Our area was constantly busy.

We were pleased to enrol a few new group members, and many others took away application forms.  The team compiled a list of things to research for people, who said they would visit the resource centre for more information.  All in all, it was an enjoyable day, and very worthwhile the effort.

We would like to thank the volunteers who made a firm commitment to assist on the day, Wendy, Jane, Sally, Jennifer, Pip, Janet, Ann, and Brian, also Margaret and Alan who transported all the equipment and helped to set up, and take down at the end of the day.  It was great team-work by all.
