Family History Society Conference 4 May

Methodist Church, Newport

On Saturday 4th May, Margaret and Ann manned the Ryde Social Heritage Group table and display, at the Isle of Wight Family History Society One Day Conference.  It was held at the Methodist Church, Newport, the displays by various groups being in the hall.  It was a long day, arriving at 9am to set-up and getting home at 5pm.

The theme for the day was Churches, Chapels, and Cemeteries.  Throughout the day, between talks and at lunch time, the Society members spent time browsing what was on view, asking questions and reminiscing.  It was interesting talking to a couple who had lived in Ryde, and they had brought with them several photographs especially to give our group.  It was good to catch up with, and support, the IOWFHS, not having seen some of the members for a while.

Margaret did her good deed for the day, by helping in the kitchen when there was washing up to be done.  Also talking to many people to make them feel welcome.
