On 8 January 2008 J.T. Yates contacted us with this comment: "George Midlane Yates was my gt grandfather's brother he was Capt George M Yates Ships Master. His wife buried with him is Emily Long. I can track my family back to the 13cent on the I.O.W. The Yeats family were boat builders on the Ryde water front, in front of the Player manor. My grt grandfather John Douglass Yates drowned of Jersey in the race of All Nations, 1876 aged 32 on the Hildergard the Prince of Wales' racing schooner, he was buried in Cherbourg, France. The Prince said he would put them all into care, and get them trades when they were older, also gave his wife a pension. We still have the letter from the Prince. My grand father Harry Lee Yates became a printer in Fleet St, London married the boss's daughter".
