Aug 1st 1908: ACCIDENT – James NASH in the employ of Mr G. H. STAINER, fell down some steps at the dairy, high-street on Tuesday and fractured two ribs. He was taken to the Hospital and after treatment there, was sent to his home.

Aug 1st 1908: FIRE – A curtain was blown over a gas-jet and took fire in the bathroom at Milverton House, Appley last week. The contents of the bathroom were destroyed.

Aug 1st 1908: PIER PAVILION – This Saturday evening the Keith PROWSE Entertainers will pay a visit to the Pavilion, the engagement is for one night only. The Management has provided a series of excellent Companies and very enjoyable programmes of light and amusing character.

Aug 1st 1908: OLYMPIC YACHT RACES – Victories for British Yachts. The international yacht races in connection with the Olympic Games, were held off Ryde on the first three days of the week and proved of very great interest to those to whom yachting is an attraction.

Aug 8th 1908: FALL FROM PIER – A lad named Fred SONGHURST of High-street, fell through the disused part of the Bathing Pier on Wednesday afternoon whilst fishing with some companions. The lad held onto the iron cross supports until Mr. J. BEVIS, boatman, put off from the shore and rescued him.

Aug 8th 1908: HOOP PARADE – The Floral Hoop Parade which proved such an attraction when it was first introduced, is to be repeated this year, and there will doubtless be a very large attendance at the Esplanade Gardens on Thursday next.

Aug 8th 1908: MAINLAND TRIPPERS – Some motor charabancs made an appearance in Ryde from the Mainland, but their stay was brief and there were none to be seen on Monday.
