Oct 3rd 1963: YOUTH – A new youth club has been formed at All Saints’ Parish Church for the 10 to 15 age group. The club held its first meeting on Monday at Church House, Queen’s-road, when 36 youngsters attended. Leaders are Mr. William REED and Miss H. HINSON.

Oct 3rd 1963: E.A.W. – The opening session of the Electrical Association for Women took place on Thursday, Mrs. S. R. BIRD, chairman, presided. A demonstration was given by Mrs. VINTER, a beautician of Elizabeth ARDEN. The committee served tea.

Oct 3rd 1963: OUTING – About 80 pupils from the beginners’ and primary classes of Garfield Methodist Sunday School, accompanied by parents, visited Sandown Zoo by coach for their annual outing on Saturday. Afterwards the children toured the East Wight.

Oct 3rd 1963: SCOUT GROUP – A presentation of a barometer with the Group’s appreciation engraved on it, was made on Monday to Mr. L. A. PALMER, for his 15 years service to the Group. Mr. PALMER has had to take up residence on the mainland on account of his work.

Oct 3rd 1963: GOLDEN WEDDING – Mr. and Mrs. E. WILLIAMS, of Swanmore-road, wish to thank the Mayor and all who sent telegrams, cards, flowers and gifts on the occasion of their Golden Wedding. Their kind thoughts made the anniversary a very happy day.

Oct 3rd 1963: SILVER CHORDS CLUB – At the weekly meeting on Tuesday members were welcomed to a musical hour and tea was served by Mrs. KNAPP. The Rotary Club sent tickets for all members to attend a concert given by the Little Canada Minstrels.

Oct 3rd 1963: EXTENSION FUND – The Ryde Baptist Church Extension Fund, target £2,700, reached £1,207 over the weekend.

Oct 10th 1963: MOUTH-TO-MOUTH – Twenty-three Girl Guides of the Ryde district attended a lecture and demonstration of the mouth-to-mouth method of resuscitation on Friday at Church House, given by County Nursing Officer (St. John Ambulance Brigade) Mr. A. EXELL assisted by County Staff Officer Mr. L. RIDER.

Oct 10th 1963: DRAMA GROUP – A new amateur theatrical group, The Clarian Players, has been formed by St. Mary’s R.C. Church parishioners. The group, which is also open to non-Catholics, stages its first production “The Blue Goose” at the Esplanade Pavilion in December.

Oct 17th 1963: AUCTION – At Messrs. Way, Riddett & Co’s property auction at Town Hall Chambers on Monday afternoon, after competitive bidding, the following dwellings were disposed of: 3 Adelaide-place £3,250; 26 Arthur-street £1,650; 22 Arundel-road £1,600; 10 Simeon-street £1,700.

Oct 17th 1963: I.W. TIMES VISIT – Members of the Ryde Methodist Church Young Wives Club yesterday toured Lightbown’s printing works at 72 Union-street and saw today’s Isle of Wight Times in the course of preparation. Various printing processes were explained to them by Mr. Lightbown.

Oct 17th 1963: E.A.W. MEETING – Mrs. S. R. BIRD, chairman, presided at the monthly meeting of the Ryde branch of the Electrical Association for Women, held at the S.E.B. Conference Hall on Thursday. A talk was given by Ald. G. F. MEW on “Smuggling in the Isle of Wight.”
