In October our research team added detail to 56 records on the website.

In October our small but busy research team added detail to another 56 records on the website.

This months additions include reports of:

* the wedding of Annie Eley to Robert Lester Gregory in September 1890;
* the death of Mr Thomas Goldney in August 1882, he ran a guest house in George Street;
* the death of Rear-Admiral George Hancock in September 1876, he had had a long and distinguished naval career and had married Marianne, Comtesse Metaxa Anzolato in December 1858;
* inquest into a tragic accident in July 1884 resulting in the death of Mary Maxwell;
* the death of retired police officer John O’Flaherty in July 1930;
* the loss of the ship La Plata off Ushant in November 1874, two of the sixty persons lost were from Ryde – Mr F H Rickets, chief engineer and Mr C A Cramer assistant engineer;
* the death of George Midlane Yates in November 1885 at the young age of 37 years, he was captain of the yacht Nina and a respected sportsman.
