RSHG OUTING TO THE BRANNON EXHIBITION AT BRADING ROMAN VILLA

Brannon Exhibition at BRV
Brannon Exhibition at BRV

We had a fantastic group outing on Saturday 20 November to see the Brannon Exhibition at Brading Roman Villa. Seventeen* of us met at the Villa just before 12 noon and Ken Hicks gave us a short but fascinating talk on the Brannon family. We then went into the exhibition and spent a couple of hours viewing the many images of the Isle of Wight produced by George Brannon and his family.

Residents of The Isle of Wight are lucky that such a talented and productive family of artists documented much of the landscape and buildings of the Island.

The exhibition is the first opportunity for 34 years for people to see a unique collection of nearly 200 original 19th century Isle of Wight engravings by the Island’s renowned Brannon family.

It is an unrivalled opportunity to view a copy of every engraving published by GEORGE BRANNON in his unique and eagerly sought-after publication Vectis Scenery; together with examples of work by his sons Phillip and Alfred.

The exhibition is open until 5th December 11am-3pm
Entry fee of £3 per person includes an exhibition catalogue
& complimentary tea or coffee in the villa cafe. All proceeds go towards Brading Roman Villa.

We thoroughly recommend a visit to this exhibition for anyone interested in the Island’s history.

After we had viewed the exhibition we had a lovely lunch in the Villa Cafe. We often get together as a group but usually we are working, having meetings, holding open days or manning exhibitions and it was great to get together as a group in a more relaxed and social setting – something we plan to do more in the future.
