MARCH 2011 ADDITIONS TO RECORDS

Our small Research Team added detail to 15 records on the website in March.

Detail this month is mainly from census, birth and marriage registers but also includes:

* The funeral of Mr John George Austin, proprietor of the Rajah Brooke, in 1917.

* Obituary for Mr William Hal Gray in 1911. He was a local artist and thespian.

* Notice from Wallis, Riddett & Down in the IW County Press in 1887 selling the property of the late Edwin Hopgood.

* Death of Mr James James in 1907. Mr James a former Mayor of Ryde had been chairman of most of the committees, a Justice of the Peace, County Councillor, member of guardians and an overseer.

* Obituary for Mr George Riddout in 1952. He had worked for Messrs. Wood & Jolliffe Ltd., coal merchants, and was then employed as a lengthman by British Railways. He was very interested in sport and served on the committee of Ryde Sports Supporters Club and was a member of Ryde Sports Club.

* Death of Mr George James West in 1952. Mr West was a native of Ryde and a veteran of the South African wars.
