In February our Research Team, led by Ann Barrett, added biographical detail to 35 records on the website. Various archives have been searched and you will find:

* Details of the life and death of Mr George Delaney in April 1936. Originally from County Cord, Ireland Mr Delaney had had a distinguished navel career. He served for 35 years first at sea and later with HM Coastguards. He came to live in Ryde in 1925.

* Details of the death and funeral of Mrs Florence Elizabeth Ricketts Gray in December 1954. She had been one of the original members of the British Legion women’s section and a member of the All Saints’ Mothers’ Union.

* Details of the death of Mrs Ethel Rosanna Potts in February 1954. She had been in the employ of the Carter family at East Upton House for many years as a cook.

* Details of the inquest into the tragic death of Mr Dudley Harold Ernest Saunders in September 1954. Mr Saunders was a railwayman and was killed by a passing train while working in the railway tunnel on the Esplanade.

* Details of the life and death of Mr William Percy Fairclough Thirkell in December 1935. Mr Thirkell had twice been Mayor of Ryde.
