Kate MacDonell
Kate MacDonell

In February our busy Research Team added biographical information to 29 records on the website as well as information on two people from Ryde who were interred or cremated elsewhere.

Lots of interesting stories were uncovered by our Research Team in February including:

* The report of a tragic motorcycle accident in March 1949 when two young people from Ryde, Miss Mabel Lee and Mr Cecil Arthur Dyer, lost their lives.

* The report of the death and funeral of Mr John Holt Skinner in July 1899. Mr Skinner’s estate was valued at over £92,000 and in his will he made a number of charitable bequests.

* The report of the death of Mr Charles Victor Moses in December 1949 at the age of 73. Mr Moses had lived in the same house in Ryde all his life and had served in the Royal Navy in the Boer War, WW1 and was in the China Seas at the time of the Boxer riotings.
