We had a great day at the Party on the Pier on Sunday 27 July.

Wightlink, the owners of Ryde Pier, held a party to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the opening of Ryde Pier in 1814. RSHG were invited to attend with our exhibition on the history of Ryde Pier and we also took along a display of our WW1 research and some of our research folders.

It was a glorious, sunny day and there was a constant steam of visitors all day. Even Queen Victoria turned up! We met lots of lovely people and chatted with them and shared information about Ryde.

There were lots of other stalls and plenty for people to do. The event ran from 10am until 9pm (although we had to leave at about 5pm having been on site since 9am). Apparently it turned into quite a party after we left with the champagne flowing.
