SEPTEMBER 2014 BIOGRAPHICAL ADDITIONS TO RECORDS

Thiepval Memorial
Thiepval Memorial

In September our Research Team added biographical information to 38 records on the website and for one person, Josiah Cutler, who was from Ryde but buried at Brading.

Lots of interesting stories were uncovered by our Research Team in September including:

* Report of the death of Mr Walter Westhorp in January 1950. Mr Westhorp was originally from Portsmouth but moved to Ryde in 1922 and he worked for his brother-in-law, Mr W Barton, a builder.

* Report of the death and funeral of Mr George Henry Tayler in August 1938. Mr Tayler had worked for Messrs. James Bull, builders, for over 40 years prior to his retirement.

* Report of the death of Lance Corporal Thomas Pinder in October 1916. He was killed in action in Flanders.

* Report of the inquest into the death of Mr Charles Drury Fuller in July 1940. Mr Fuller had failed to surrender to bail on serious charges. He shot himself with a service rifle and died shortly afterwards at the County Hospital
