Students visit Ryde Cemetery Heritage & Learning Centre

Zac and Ned

On Friday 30th June 2017, two students from Ryde Academy, Zac Dawson and Ned Elliot, accompanied by Natascha Nelson, attended the Ryde Cemetery Heritage & Learning Centre to research the history of their school from its beginnings as Upper Grade School for boys, to Ryde High School.  They spent about an hour looking through the Ryde Social Heritage Groups’ archive folders on schools, also old photographs of pupils and teachers, and snippets from bygone days.  Apart from the copied and pre-printed documents they were able to take away with them, other material of their choosing was scanned, printed, laminated, and delivered to the school.

Two former pupils of Ryde Upper Grade, Mrs Shelagh Gaylard and Mr David Bushell, were on hand to give accounts of their schooldays, which the students found very interesting, and they enquired whether an interview of memories would be possible.
