Ryde Social Heritage Group Members’ Meeting January 2018

Our new Chairman Shelagh Gaylard welcomed 41 members and 14 visitors to the January Quarterly Meeting and then reported on the various activities involving the Group which had taken place since October. This was followed by reports giving information on Finances, Membership Numbers, Research and Mapping.

After the break for the raffle and refreshments our President, Richard Smout, gave a talk on “Hidden Heroes of Ryde” which covered ten past residents of Ryde ranging from Kleo Friend, nurse, to Louis Zink, hairdresser. In an informal vote on who the audience regarded as the most heroic, opinion was heavily in favour of Kleo Friend.
