July Quarterly Meeting for Members, Friends & Guests

Considering it is the holiday time of the year, there was a very good attendance at the July Quarterly Meeting held at the George Street Centre on 13th July 2019.  There were 31 members and nine visitors, making a total of 40 persons present.  Barbara Hunt, chairperson, welcomed everybody on the bright and sunny morning and thanked them for coming.  A couple of items from the reports were briefly touched upon, including the problems with the website. Then Margaret was asked to explain about our forthcoming participation in Party on the Green on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th August at Ryde Esplanade.

There was a break for the raffle and refreshments, also time to peruse the various documents that were made available.  People enjoyed the opportunity to socialise with friends and visitors.

There followed a very interesting presentation by Dr. Paul Bingham, about “Recording the Weather of Ryde 1852 to 1997.”  We all learned a great deal about the recording and history of it. The audience were particularly pleased when a few were asked to read out paragraphs during the talk.  Afterwards a few questions were asked of Dr. Bingham, such was the interest.

Thank you to everyone who attended, including Dr. Bingham, which gave us all a very pleasant Saturday morning.
