Remembrance Service

The Service of Remembrance took place in the South Chapel of Ryde Cemetery on the 7th November 2019, at 6.30, which was appropriately decorated for the occasion.

We were pleased to see about 18 people attend as it was a rather chilly night.  The Ryde Sea Cadets Standard Bearer, Liam Chandler came along with James Wallace (Marine Detachment Command) as well as Jeff Reid, a regular Ryde Sea Cadet Commander.

Unfortunately, the Royal British Legion did not attend, so we did not have a bugler, or their Standard, nor a minister.  Barbara Hunt (RSHG Chairperson) then took the service with Brian Harris doing the exhortation and Derek Warman read a very emotional family letter from a serving soldier in India, to his mother, which had been sent at the end of the war.

Light refreshments were served before and after the service in the North Chapel, where a number of splendid displays, relevant for the occasion were produced for members and visitors to peruse.
