Carnival Display

RSHG Carnival Display

It was lovely to see one of our displays in the old “Miss Packs” building during the Carnival week.  Ryde Carnival Company and Shademakers, had asked us if we had any pictures and articles etc., that they could use for their opening of the shop during Carnival Week.  We were able to make a fantastic display of our archive material and added to this Ann was able to display 2 dresses which were used at the carnival in 1976.  We were able to lift our profile to tell others what we are all about in the Ryde Social Heritage Group.

During Carnival Week several of us, and perhaps other members as well, were able to go into the shop to see their displays and also to watch some archive films of past Carnivals in their “cinema”.

Shademakers now reside in the old “Miss Packs” shop and are in the process of transforming the place, but are also keeping lots of the original features and fittings for the future.

Our exhibition was also valued when they had their Official Opening on the following Thursday after carnival week finished.  We had a very warm welcome and were thanked very much for producing the display and we were asked if we could produce another one for them.

Thanks for all the hard work and many hours put into the production of the displays etc.
