Members’ AGM & Social Morning

Members Socializing

We had a very good A.G.M. recently at the George Street Centre, which was our 1st face-to-face Members Meeting for almost 2 years.  28 People attended, so we were able to elect Margaret Truckel to join the committee and the re-election of Ann Barrett as Membership secretary, Mike Parsley as Treasurer and Barbara Hunt as Chairperson.

We had reports from the Chairperson, the Membership Secretary, the Treasurer, Research & Publications, the Audio Trail Team, and Mapping. Members had a chance to peruse them at their leisure before the meeting.

We had quite a different meeting, as we still wanted to be mindful of precautions that were being followed with regard to Covi-19 and this brought about three or four people sitting around small tables, but looking forward instead of our usual lines of chairs.  It worked out very well as after the business side of things members were able to have their refreshments, sit at the tables, or mill around our two new displays of the carnival which had been in Elizabeth Packs building, and our brand new “Shop” display. Added to which, there was a quiz for members to do.

Overall, a very good social occasion, and so pleased to be able to start meeting up together again.

We did have some bad news to convey, the cemetery chapel, our notice board and green interpretation panel, had been vandalised with bright pink and black paint.  Such a shame.

Three things to mention are: that we are starting up our Coffee Mornings again on Saturday 23rd October and we will be having a Christmas Drop-in on Saturday 4th December, both 10-2pm.

Also, we are going to have a Remembrance Service in the South Chapel on Friday 12th November with the Rev Kerry Birch officiating. We may be changing the time from an evening service to an afternoon one.
