Service of Remembrance

Having refreshments after the service

On Friday 12th November, 2021 @ 2.30 in the West Street Cemetery, Ryde Social Heritage Group held their annual service of Remembrance in the South Chapel. We were not able to hold it last year due to the pandemic, so it was even more poignant to be able to hold it this year.

The service was led by Rev. Kerry Birch and around 20 people attended.  The Royal British Legion attended with their Standard, held by Peter Atkinson, and his daughter Charlotte read the Exhortation and the Kohima Epitaph. During the service Derek Warman read some letters from a relative of his, Arthur Watson (Art), who wrote letters home in 1915 before he was killed in action.  They were very moving.

Many thanks to all those who came along, and the people behind the scenes who helped to make it a very successful day. You are very much appreciated.
