January Quarterly Meeting 2023

Presentation by Nick Minns

On Saturday 14th January we held our first quarterly meeting of the year, at the George Street Centre, Ryde. A warm welcome was given to the many people, who had braved the atrocious weather that morning to join us, which included 23 members and 2 visitors.  Unfortunately, Barbara (chair) was unable to attend due to illness, so Ann (membership secretary) and Margaret (minutes secretary) stepped in to make sure the meeting went smoothly.

The short business of the meeting was dealt with quickly to give people more time to socialise. There were no questions or comments about the reports sent with the agenda.

Ann reminded those present about forthcoming events: the Big Garden Birdwatch on 28th January, in Ryde Cemetery 10am-2pm, and that RSHG would be taking part in the IW Walking Festival 13th – 21st May, by offering guided walks around the Ryde Cemetery.

Ann also said that we are always looking for new group members, so if they knew of anybody who may be interested in joining, please send them along to the centre, or to contact the membership secretary.  Everybody then enjoyed a Raffle in aid of group funds, and light refreshments.

Ann gave a welcome to Nick Minns, who presented a wonderful and very interesting talk, called “Augustus Vernon Harcourt.”  Nick explained such a lot of detail that we didn’t know about, and there were a lot of questions from the audience, great participation. Afterwards people were able to look at the photographs that Nick had brought along. There was also a collection of old postcards to view.

Many thanks to everyone who helped to make it a very pleasant and sociable morning.

Ann Barrett
Membership Secretary
