HM Armed Services

Soldiers through Upper High Street, Ryde

It would seem appropriate for this month of Remembrance, when we are thinking of all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, that the image  we show is of members of His Majesty’s Army, with horses, driving through the Upper High Street at Ryde.  Effort was made by the town businessmen to put up flags and bunting, and many people came out to watch them pass by.  It looks like Mr Frederick George Whittington outside his shop on the left.

We list here below a small random representative of those in our thoughts, who were interred, or remembered on memorials in a Ryde Cemetery, and a link to their file.

Flying Officer John Stewart Osborne

Lance Corporal Walter John Butcher

Stoker Petty Officer George Henry Orchard
