Remembrance Service 2024

As usual the Annual Service of Remembrance held in the South Chapel at Ryde Cemetery was well attended, when 34 guests, including the Mayor, Richard May, were welcomed for the 3pm service.  The Rev Kerry Birch of the Ryde Baptist Church led the worship.

A contingent of the Ryde Sea Cadets, TS Royal George, with their Standard, took a prominent and impressive part in the proceedings. It was a privilege to have these very smart young people in attendance, and we must say that having their support every year is very much appreciated.

One of the Ryde Social Heritage Group members, Julie Jordan, had written a poem called “Peace on Earth” which she read out to us.  The 2 minutes silence was observed together with the Last Post and the Reveille. The whole service was very poignant and a personal time to reflect and remember those who had made the ultimate sacrifice.

After the service, refreshments were served in the North Chapel, when people were able to catch up and chat with friends.  Donations towards the refreshments went to the funds of the Ryde Sea Cadets.
