Big Garden Birdwatch 2025

Long-tailed Tit

RSHG hosted the usual yearly Birdwatch at the Heritage Centre in Ryde Cemetery on Saturday 25th January, when 12 people came in at various times during our period of opening.

The day was cold but bright with the sun appearing for most of the morning, which was good considering the unfavourable weather earlier in the week.

All the visitors, were wrapped up warm, and armed with clip-boards and pages of birds on which to record their findings.  They seemed very enthusiastic when they walked to their chosen part of the cemetery to watch and count.

An interesting innovation this year was, some people had App’s on their phones, where they could record the bird-song, which would straight away identify the bird that was singing or calling, thus helping to get it right.

Everyone came back into the centre afterwards and enjoyed a warming cup of tea or coffee and discuss the morning and general chit-chat.  Some took their sheets home to notify RSPB themselves, and the rest of the pages will be dealt with by us.

Many thanks to those people who took the time and trouble to come and join in, it was good to see you.  All in all, a very successful day.
