Quarterly Social Morning 5 April 2025
It was pleasing to see a good amount of our members at the 2nd quarterly social morning of the year, held at the Baptist Church, George Street, Ryde on Saturday 5th April, two visitors also came to join us, whom we were happy to see.
Margaret welcomed everybody, including the speaker for the morning. Margaret updated the members on the health of Ann (membership secretary) after her fall with a few breakages, explaining that she had returned home after months in hospital, and would be returning soon to the cemetery. Margaret also said Ann had received a card from staff at Bereavement Services wishing her well and hope they would see her soon at the Crematorium. These 2 last statements caused laughter from the audience. (members know that Ann and Margaret work at the Crematorium one day a month).
The Raffle was drawn and the partaking of refreshments.
Then followed a very interesting presentation by Paul Kingswell, of the Vectis Postcard Club, entitled “An Isle of Wight Postcard Collection.” Paul’s talk was illustrated by many postcards from his personal collection, depicting various historical scenes from around the Island. At the end of the talk Paul answered many questions from the people gathered, who had shown great interest. Richard Smout (president) gave the vote of thanks to Paul.
All in all, a very successful morning, with credit going to Paul Kingswell, also the group helpers who had ensured that the event ran smoothly, thank you.
Note:
We would like to mention a date for your diary – A Postcard & Ephemera Fair will be held by the Vectis Postcard Club on Saturday 19 July at the Masonic Hall in John Street, Ryde, 10am till 3pm.
