Social Morning & AGM October 2025

The Secret Home Guard

We were really pleased to see such a good crowd of members turn up for the RSHG Quarterly Social Morning on Saturday 11th October, held at the Baptist Church, George Street, which is a comfortable venue and the people always very helpful and welcoming.  14 visitors came along to join us, and 3 others signed-up to become new members.  It was a good opportunity for everyone to meet and there was a lot of chat going on.

Everybody enjoyed the refreshments, and a goodly amount participated in the raffle.  We would like to thank the volunteers who stepped forward to dispense the tea, coffee and biscuits, and deal with the raffle.  The help was much appreciated.

Richard Smout (President) was in the chair.  The short business of the yearly AGM didn’t take long, when the following persons were proposed and unanimously voted onto the committee again by a show of hands.

Michael Parsley (Treasurer)
Ann Barrett (Membership Secretary)
Margaret Truckel (Minutes Secretary)

The speaker, Sam Biles, gave us an excellent talk called “The secret Home Guard on the Isle of Wight” which was well received by an attentive audience.  Sam was given a round of applause at the end, and questions were asked by the audience.

Many thanks to Sam for his presentation, and thank you to everyone who helped make the day run smoothly.

Ann Barrett
(Mem.Sec)
