Wight Motors’ (Ryde) New Show-rooms 1933
7 January 1933
Wight Motors Ltd., who had the most up-to-date modern service station possible in the rear of the Theatre Royal, had recently brought themselves still more conspicuously into the eyes of the motoring world by establishing a spacious show-room in the High-street, within a stone’s throw of their service station.
The new development arose out of the closing down of the boot and shoe outfitters’ shop previously carried on by Messrs. Savage and Son, and the company were quick to seize an excellent opportunity for an advantageous display of some of the cars for which they were agents. These comprised, the Austin, Buick, Singer, and Vauxhall cars, and Bedford commercial vehicles.
The company’s enterprise was being rewarded with good business.
Note:
Many years later, Wight Motors service station which had an entrance in Garfield Road, was demolished to make way for a new development called The Travelodge.
