Crematorium Open Day Success
On Saturday 30 May 2026, we participated in the Isle of Wight Crematorium Open Day. It was the 65th anniversary of the new crematorium building being used.
We set up a display board and tables with photos and material about the 1960’s. The display showed buildings, events, clothes and Island music entertainers from that era. There was a selection of music disk singles, which were played throughout the day, school photos and give-away leaflets. The event drew a steady stream of people all day and our display evoked much discussion and reminiscing about what people remembered. Much to identify with.
Bereavement Services staff and ourselves, dressed in the appropriate clothes for that era, that caused a laugh if nothing else, but certainly added to the friendly relaxed atmosphere. Refreshments were available, the assortment of home-made cakes were rather delicious.
There was also, guided tours given by B/S staff, other exhibition boards, and a variety of classic cars in the car-park to interest enthusiasts.
We would like to thank B/S for inviting our group to join in their event. It is always good to support them. All donations went to the SANDS charity.
