Visit from the Vectis Postcard Club
On Wednesday morning 24 June 2026, the Ryde Social Heritage Group’s small team of volunteers hosted a visit from the Vectis Postcard Club members. The weather was really rather hotter than everybody would have liked, but despite that, they packed a lot into their visit.
The group were welcomed at the North chapel, and armed with bottles of water, hats, fans, and umbrella’s, they were soon walking the cemetery on a guided tour of some of the many graves, and hearing the interesting stories about the people who rest there.
On their return, a drink and homemade cake was waiting for them, the refreshments seemed to go down well. Some of the members had a go at one of our fun quizzes. After a while, when they had recovered a little from their walk in the sun, they adjourned to the South chapel to sit, where they were told some of the history of the 3 Chapels, and burial ground, including the restoration.
We are sure it was a very successful day for everybody. We should like to thank the Vectis Postcard Club for visiting us at the Heritage Centre in Ryde Cemetery, we at RSHG certainly enjoyed the day.
Note:
I have put below an emailed comment from Hilary of the VPC for all to read.

TO RSHG
“Thank you to the Ryde Social Heritage volunteers who gave the Vectis Postcard Club a very interesting morning at the Cemetery. There were displays specially put up for the Club in one of the Chapels, and their Archive, and, more importantly cakes and drinks, in the other. Most of the VPC member braved the intense heat for a tour of the Cemetery and learnt about some of the famous and not so famous people buried there. Overall, a very enjoyable morning and thanks to all involved.”.
