Quarterly Social Morning

Speed's 17th Century Map

We are very pleased to report that our quarterly social morning on Saturday 3 October held at the Baptist Church, George Street, was extremely successful.  We had the largest amount of members and visitors turn up on the day, more than we have had at an October gathering before.  Plenty of socializing going on, and refreshments enjoyed.  The short business of voting in the Officers and members of the committer was ably carried out by Richard Smout (president), they are: Mike Parsley (Treasurer), Ann Barrett (Membership Secretary). Margaret Truckel (Minutes Secretary, and Barbara Hunt (Committee Member).

Then came an excellent presentation by Richard Smout called “Isle of Wight in the 17th Century.”  His talk covered so many aspects about the lives of people and property of that era.   Richard gave every person present some hand-outs that showed the substance of his words, and which the audience found really interesting.  Richard was kind enough to offer his services as speaker that day, at very short notice, owing to the previously arranged speaker having to pull-out at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances.  Everybody appreciated that and gave a hearty round of applause.  Thank you Richard.
