Although we cannot read all of the inscription we believe it is from the Hymn Holy Father, Cheer Our Way by Richard Hayes Robinson, 1869 and the verse we are unable to read is likely to be:

GRANT US, AS WE COME TO DIE
LIGHT AT EVENING TIME
