"Nicholas Bagwell Smith who is named on Martha's grave is my great great great grandfather and was clerk of Trinity Church. My father grew up on the Isle of Wight and was the second of the family to move to the United States.

My father was Charles William Frederick Smith. He lived with his Aunt in Ryde at 19 Nelson St. He attended school on the Island and had one brother Ronald Smith. They were both born in London and Ronald Smith died on the IOW. My father received his calling into the ministry when he was a young man. He became the Cannon at the Washington Cathedral and went on to a professor in Cambridge Mass in Liturgics, Greek and New Testament.
Nicholas Bagwell Smith according to 1851 Census states he was born 1759 in Whippingham, Hampshire, England New Church Charles Smith his son born 1832 Newport Hampshire Isle of Wight, dgt.
Elizabeth Smith born 1839 Newport, Son Frank born 1845 Newport, Son George born 1837 Newport, Martha born 1805 Gatcombe,Hampshire source Citation:class HO107; Piece 1664; Folio: 80 Page10; GSUroll 193571. Hope this helps."
