July 3rd 1926:  TWO ADVERTS – Wanted Home for Baby Girl, age 2 months, moderate payment. Write County Press:  For Sale Wireless, 3-valve, very handsome set, equal to new, complete with Ethovox loud speaker and accumulators, only 25 guineas, demonstration by appointment. Phone 27.

July 17th 1926:  LOCAL BANKRUPTCY – The Gazette of Tuesday contained the following receiving order:  J. W. EYNON, 101 High-street, Ryde, pork butcher.

July 17th 1926:  EFFORTS AT ST JOHN’S – As a result of the Parish jumble sale £8.6s.8d. was realised.  Mrs. MCLEOD had the assistance of many willing helpers in the effort.  The profit accruing from the recent country fair organised in aid of the Women’s Institute Hut Fund amounted to £42.4s.11d.

July 17th 1926:  ROYAL PATRONAGE – The Mayor has received official intimation the King has been graciously pleased to again grant his patronage to the Royal regatta and to contribute £10 to the funds, and also that Princess Beatrice is very glad to again grant her patronage by sending £28.3s. towards the funds.

July 17th 1926:  TOWN WORKMEN’S OUTING – The annual outing of the Corporation employees was held on Saturday, when a party of between 60 and 70 crossed to Portsmouth and made a delightful char-a-banc tour to Guildford where lunch was served.  The afternoon journey was by way of Aldershot to Chichester, where tea was partaken of.

July 17th 1926:  HARRY TATE AT THE THEATRE – Two good audiences assembled at the Theatre Royal on Thursday afternoon and evening, when that inimitable comedian, Harry TATE, complete with his inevitable moustache and amusing eccentricities, appeared in the old favourites “Selling a car” and “Broadcasting,” supported by a company from the London Coliseum.

July 24th 1926:  OPENING OF THE WESTERN BANDSTAND – The new bandstand and enclosure recently erected at the Western Esplanade gardens will be officially opened on Friday by the Mayor and Corporation.

July 24th 1926:  CIVIC WELCOME AT RYDE – Rarely had an event been more keenly anticipated than the coming of the Prince of Wales, and for some weeks the Corporation, working in conjunction with local organisations, had been preparing to give the Royal visitor a worthy welcome.  The entire route taken by the Prince was brilliantly canopied with flags and the splendid display of bunting had rarely, if ever, been equalled here.

July 31st 1926:  RYDE BOROUGH POLICE – At the sitting on Monday of the Bench in connection with the Hotel Licence transfers, an application for the temporary transfer of the licence of the Atlantic Hotel from G. ROBERTS to William Charles CHAMBERLAIN was granted.

July 31st 1926:  LICENCE EXTENSIONS – The Royal Victoria Yacht Club applied for an extension until 12 o’clock on the occasion of the annual dinner, also for extensions until 2 a.m., on two evenings for dancing, in conjunction with the Royal Thames Yacht Club.  The applications were granted.

July 31st 1926:  RYDE GRAMMAR SCHOOL – There was a large attendance at the fifth annual prize distribution at Ryde Grammar School, held at the Town-hall on Monday, when the scholars were responsible for an excellent miscellaneous programme.  The Head-master (Mr. W. L. MCISAAC) thanked the Mayor and Mayoress for supporting the school, and the Mayoress for consenting to present the prizes.  He also said that the object of the Ryde Grammar-school was an earnest endeavour to turn boys out as useful citizens.
