June 6th 1925:  NARROWLY AVERTED TRAGEDY – A particularly gallant attempt by a crippled visitor to Ryde, to rescue a tiny girl who had fallen into the water was witnessed by hundreds of holiday-makers on the Eastern-esplanade on Monday afternoon.  The baby girl, Doris ARCHER, the two-year old child of Mr. W. ARCHER, of Warwick-place, Ryde.  She was playing on the front with her brother, whilst her mother was not far away.  It was nearly high water, the girl had climbed on a groyne near the canoe-lake, she slipped and fell into the sea.  In spite of the fact there were a large number of people her plight was not noticed straight away.  Mr. GARNETT of Guildford, a cripple noticed what happened and went into the water waist deep, but owing to his disability was unable to rescue the drowning girl.  Mr. RUSSELL of Southampton plunged in and rescued the child.

June 13th 1925:  LIFEBOAT DAY – The total sum collected at Ryde on behalf of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution amounted to the vey creditable figure of £23.14s.  Over £11 was raised by means of the copper trail started in Union-street.

June 20th 1925:  A GRAND FETE – will be held in the grounds of Appley Hall, Ryde, by kind permission of Sir Hedworth WILLIAMSON, Bart, on Thursday June 25. Old English Fair and a Pastoral Pageant Play.  Maypole and Folk Dancing by the children of the Gassiot School.  Teas and Refreshments, Various Stalls, Numerous Sideshows.  Dancing from 9pm to Cecil Elgar’s Band.

June 20th 1925:  ISLAND PLAYERS DEVON TOUR – The party of Island bowlers who are making a week’s tour of Devon, under the auspices of the I.W.B.A., will leave Ryde this morning for Torquay.  The opening match is against Winterbourne at Teignmouth on Monday.  On the following day Paignton will be engaged, the City of Exeter will be next on Thursday.

June 20th 1925:  ST. JOHN’S WOMEN’S INSTITUTE – The annual outing took place on Thursday week when 32 members spent a day in London.  On Saturday the children had an outing by char-a-banc, they went through Ashey, over the downs, to Godshill and Shanklin.  The arrangements for both outings were made by Mrs. URRY.

June 20th 1925:  SERIOUS ACCIDENT – Frederick LANGDON, toll-collector on Ryde Pier, who lived in   Church-street, Haylands, was taken to the County Hospital; on Thursday evening suffering from severe injuries to the head as the result of a motor-cycle accident.  He was riding with his brother-in-law on the pillion, they were returning from a wedding at Seaview, when at Upton Cross the machine skidded badly and both men were thrown heavily to the ground.  They were both detained in hospital.

June 27th 1925:  MAYORAL GARDEN PARTY AT RYDE – The Mayor and Mayoress of Ryde, Mr. and Mrs. H. Rowland RUSSELL, gave a delightful garden party in the Mead-gardens on Wednesday.  Over 200 invited guests were present, and there was a general perception that in spite of grey skies the event was a great success.  The whole of the gardens were bedecked with flags.  The guests were received by the Mayor and Mayoress.

June 27th 1925:  AT THE PIER PAVILION – The entertainers engaged this season are one of the brightest concert parties seen on Ryde Pier.  They have been drawing crowded houses during their first week.  The artistes are talented and versatile and their performances are original and full of real expression.
