Nov 2nd 1912: RELIEF SOCIETY – An appeal is being made for generous help to renew the stock of blankets and quilts which are sent to the aged and infirm for the winter months. Coal is also given, if funds permit, in December and January.

Nov 2nd 1912: TENDERS – The Ryde Relief Society invite tenders for the supply of coal (30 or 40 tons) best and second quality, to be delivered as required in small quantities. The committee do not bind themselves to accept the lowest or any tender. Tenders to be sent to Mr. J. TOMS, Lytchett Villa, Pellhurst-road, not later than Saturday, November 16th.

Nov 2nd 1912: GIFT – H.R.H. Princess Henry of Battenberg has sent a gift of pheasants to the Royal I.W. County Hospital, of which H.R.H. is the President.

Nov 2nd 1912: NATIONAL RESERVES – Headed by the band of the Royal Field Artillery belonging to the Ammunition Column at Ryde, members of the National Reserve marched to a church parade at All Saints’ Church. Colonel E. W. CRADOCK, D.L. was in command.

Nov 2nd 1912: LAUNDRY EMPLOYEE’S PARTY – The Directors of Vectis Steam Laundry, Ryde, gave the employees their annual party at the laundry on Saturday last, when about 76 sat down to a sumptuous repast. Decorations were lavish consisting of evergreens, festoons, ferns, Chinese lanterns and flags, which made the laundry look quite festive. An enjoyable evening was spent in games, dancing and songs, also selections on the phonograph at intervals.

Nov 16th 1912: ASHEY MANOR ESTATE – Messrs. WALLIS, RIDDETT & Co. (in conjunction with Messrs. MERCER & Co.) have recently sold this estate, comprising the picturesque old Manor House, with farm buildings, cottages, etc., and about 200 acres of pasture and arable land. The estate includes Ashey Down with its well-known sea mark.

Nov 16th 1912: VISIT – Miss Maud SANTLEY the famous Island contralto, is to sing at a concert at the Town Hall, Ryde, on Monday afternoon, which has been arranged to aid the funds of the Ryde Royal Regatta off the Esplanade. She will sing “Softly awakes my heart” amongst others.

Nov 23rd 1912: SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION – The Schools Challenge Banner competition for the Scholars Scripture Examination was awarded to Haylands Congregational Church, who were awarded 2016 points.

Nov 30th 1912: ACCIDENT – Mr. M. De LAUNAY had the misfortune to lose his finger through an accident while using a rotary bacon cutter. The finger was severed near the middle joint, but the whole finger was afterwards amputated.

Nov 30th 1912: PROPERTY – On good authority we hear the Appley Towers has been let. If some of the other large houses in the neighbourhood were also let it would have a marked effect on the prosperity of the town.

Nov 30th 1912: BOAT – If the 8.35 boat connecting with the train from Waterloo on Thursdays and Fridays is adequately patronised, the Company may run the boat every night.

Nov 30th 1912: PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY – Sir Arthur Sullivan’s grand musical will be performed at the Town Hall, on Thursday 12th December. The chorus has worked hard under the training of the hon conductor Mr. C. B. HAIR. Mr. Allen K. BLACKALL, F.R.C.O., the talented son of the Mayor of Ryde, has kindly consented to come from Warwick to preside at the organ and Miss Marguerite WATTS will again preside at the piano.
