Nov 7th 1925: HOLY TRINITY GIRLS’ CLUB – Almost 100 members and friends assembled at the Trinity-hall on Monday, when a most successful social and dance began the Club’s activities for the winter. The capable little St. John’s dance orchestra supplied the music, and games, &c. were organised by Miss SMITH and assistant. The hall was prettily decorated.
Nov 7th 1925: SOUTHERN RAILWAY PRIZES – During the summer the railway-stations in the Island are gay with beautiful flowers, and the prizes which the directors of the Southern Railway offer for the best-kept stations always make a great incentive to the station-masters. On Thursday the prizes and other awards for the best-kept lengths of permanent-way were presented.
Nov 7th 1925: RYDE BOROUGH POLICE – An occasional license was granted to Mr. PEARCE, of Union-street, for the Mayor’s banquet at the Town-hall on November 9th.
Nov 7th 1925: APPLICATION – Mr. H. FLUX applied on behalf of Mrs. TURTLE, of the Eagle Hotel, Esplanade, for a permanent music and dancing license. He said the hotel was a private one, and was not used for sale of liquor. A private dancing club had been formed, and dances were held approximately every fortnight, for which a temporary license had been granted up till 11.00 p.m. It was proposed to arrange occasional long-night dances, and, to enable this to be done, he asked for a license until 1.30 a.m. The Bench granted the license till midnight.
Nov 14th 1925: REMEMBRANCE – Organised under the auspices of the British Legion an impressive memorial service, attended by all the public bodies of the town, was held at the Town-hall on Sunday afternoon to commemorate Remembrance-day. When the service began the hall was practically full. A raised dais had been erected in front of the war memorial tablet opposite the entrance, and here the officiating ministers stood.
Nov 21st 1925: ON THE SHORE – A torpedo, believed to have been used in experimental manoeuvres in the Solent, was discovered at Binstead on the shore between Players-copse and Quarr by Mr. W. TAYLOR on Monday. It was removed by the Customs Authorities on Wednesday.
Nov 28th 1925: A PRETTY WEDDING – was solemnised at the Parish Church on Monday between Mr. Thomas Henry SNUDDEN, only son of Mr. T. SNUDDEN of Riboleau-street, and Miss Violet Rose PRANGNELL, eldest daughter of Mr. PRANGNELL, of the Strand. The Vicar (the Rev. Hugh Le FLEMING) officiated. The bride, who was given away by her brother (Mr. L. PRANGNELL), was prettily attired in white satin and wreath and veil of orange blossom, and carried a sheaf of lilies. The honeymoon is being spent in Salisbury.
Nov 28th 1925: THE GOLF CLUB – The fourth annual meeting of the ladies’ section of the Ryde Golf Club was held on Wednesday, when Miss M. GADD was re-elected captain and Mrs. Osborne was elected hon. Secretary. It was reported that of the inter-club matches played over the weeks during the year, the Ryde representatives won five.
Nov 28th 1925: THE COUNTY HOSPITAL – The committee report that seven probationers have passed the preliminary intake examination under the General Nursing Council for England and Wales at their first attempt.
Nov 28th 1925: RYDE – The news of the passing of the Queen Mother was received with wide spread regret in this district. Flags on public buildings and at all the football matches were flown at half-mast on Saturday and the players wore black armlets. Special services were held in the churches and Queen Alexandra’s favourite hymns were sung. The late Queen was world-famous for her beauty and charm.
