On Saturday 31 March crowds of locals and visitors thronged to the Pier Head at Ryde for Wightlink's second annual Party on the Pier


Notwithstanding the drenching rain which fell on Wednesday, some hundreds of inhabitants of Ryde who have, or profess to have, tastes for field sports, departed for Gatcombe steeple chases on that day.
