The Ryde Social Heritage Groups‘ new exhibition on Historic Property Sales Catalogues, will be in Ryde Library from 25 September till 21 October 2017.
A newspaper advert from 180 years ago praises Arenean Soap, which is the result of chemical and geological research in the Isle of Wight, among whose enchanting cliffs a substance of a saponaceous nature has recently been discovered.
'STROUD GROCER’ can be seen clearly on the wall. The business was run by Mr Edward George Stroud, and although he died in 1919 the grocers shop still traded under his name until at least 1935.
On Saturday 23rd September the Ryde Cemetery Learning Centre was open in conjunction with Isle of Wight Days, the theme for the day being “Property Sales”.

This building in West-street was erected in loving memory of Robert & Elizabeth Milligan by their daughter Sophia Milligan, in 1880.
