It was pleasing to see a good amount of our members at the 2nd quarterly social morning of the year, held at the Baptist Church, George Street, Ryde on Saturday 5th April, two visitors also came to join us, whom we were happy to see.

Mr William Hodgkinson was well known for the turf accountant’s business he conducted from his home, and formerly for his interest in bowls. He served in the Army during the Boer War.

On Saturday 3rd October 1953 a fire gutted two rooms in the west wing of East Upton House, Ryde, the unoccupied home of the Carter family.
