A very interesting event was enjoyed by members and friends on Saturday 4th February 2017 from 10am till 2pm at Ryde library.
On Saturday 28 January 18 people met at Ryde Cemetery Heritage and Learning Centre for the RSPB Garden Birdwatch event. Fortunately it was dry and sunny, although rather chilly.
In December, our busy research team added 34 biographical records to names on the website, including that of Mr Edwin Joyce. A carver and guilder, of 49 Union-street, Ryde.
The first Ryde Social Heritage Group Members meeting of the year was held on the 7th January at the George Street Centre and despite a spate of seasonal illness was attended by 33 Members and 6 Visitors.
We have passed another milestone, over 18,000 new records have been added to the website, the actual total at the end of December 2016 being 18,068.
Seasonal festivities were in full swing at the Ryde Cemetery Heritage and Learning Centre for RSHG's Victorian Christmas Event. About 40 members and friends passed through the doors between 10.30 and 2pm
This was the third year running that Haylands Primary School brought both of their Year 3 classes to Ryde Cemetery as an introduction to their Victorian studies.

On Tuesday morning 15th November 2016, under gloomy skies, our latest Fungi Walk took place at Ryde Cemetery under the guidance of Dr Colin Pope of the Isle of Wight Natural History and Archaeological Society.
Our 1916 Centenary Commemoration culminated in a Service of Remembrance conducted by Canon Graham Morris in the South Chapel of Ryde Cemetery on Thursday evening 10th November 2016.
